Health and Wellbeing Queensland (HWQ) was established in July 2019 with a visionary mandate to improve the health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders and address health inequities. Focused on innovation and partnerships beyond typical governmental capabilities, HWQ aims to combat chronic disease risk factors through collaborative and innovative approaches.
Objective
From its inception, HWQ engaged Evolut with the goal of leveraging digital technologies to transform the health landscape of Queensland. The objective was to develop a dynamic digital platform that not only communicated HWQ’s mission and initiatives but also supported extensive future growth into new campaigns and health programs.
Approach
Evolut worked closely with HWQ to craft a digital strategy that resulted in a multifunctional website. This platform was designed to support HWQ’s evolving needs, featuring extensive content on health programs, campaigns, tools for exercise and nutrition, a comprehensive resource library, and a dedicated hub for clinicians.
They have a great balance of being both commercial and creative. They’ve got the technical expertise but they really go beyond with the mix of both design and commercial understanding so we can really build something that’ll achieve the desired outcome of the business. They worked with us through that. Additionally, we're impressed with their strategy. They didn’t intend to build a site that’d be demolished in a couple of years’ time. Their team is being scalable so they’ll reuse the work that they’ve done previously to build. They don’t have to restart. This shows that they’re being very careful with our money as well. Additionally, we’ve had a great flow in sales. We’ve had $7 million worth of preorders since we went live. This is far exceeding our expectations and targets. The fact that it flowed and worked well without any errors is a win.

Recognizing the need for practical, easily accessible health resources, one of the standout features developed was the Online Recipes tool.
This tool offers users a variety of recipes complete with nutritional information, ingredients, methods, and a rich image gallery. It’s designed to encourage healthy eating habits by providing a user-friendly and informative resource that makes nutritious cooking accessible and enjoyable.
Alongside nutritional guidance, physical activity is a pillar of HWQ’s strategy to improve public health.
The Exercises repository was developed to include detailed video guides and training manuals. This resource supports individuals of all fitness levels by providing clear, actionable guidance on physical exercises, promoting active lifestyles across diverse Queensland communities.
To support healthcare professionals, HWQ needed a specialized resource that could offer easy access to a wide range of informational materials.
A dedicated Resource Centre for clinicians was created, featuring a faceted search functionality that allows for easy navigation and access to a vast library of health resources and program directories, enhancing the ability of healthcare providers to access relevant information efficiently.
HWQ’s dynamic engagement strategy includes the regular launch of health campaigns and initiatives.
A flexible campaign management system was implemented, enabling the creation of customizable microsites for various campaigns. This system allows for quick setup and modification of campaign-specific sites, supporting HWQ’s agile and evolving promotional activities.
To foster a community of practice among health professionals and partners, a secure online community platform was developed.
This platform facilitates the sharing of resources, ideas, and best practices among partners, enhancing collaborative efforts and community engagement in health initiatives.
Future Outlook
HWQ continues to expand its digital offerings, with plans to integrate more interactive tools and real-time data analytics to further personalize user experiences and enhance community engagement. Ongoing digital innovations are expected to play a crucial role in achieving HWQ’s long-term goals of reducing chronic disease and improving public health across Queensland.
